The proportion of pangasius imports of this “fifth largest Asian country” increased from 0.8% to 1%.

Vietnam’s pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia in the first two months of 2023 increased by 7% compared to the same period last year. Just in the first half of March, pangasius exports to this country reached 1.2 million USD, up 35% compared to the same period in 2022 (just over 800,000 USD).

As of mid-March, this market ranked second after Egypt in the Middle East countries and ranked 18th in the world for Vietnam’s pangasius imports.

VASEP believes that in the context of inflation, many countries in the region have witnessed negative growth in Vietnam’s pangasius imports along with strict regulations imposed by Saudi Arabia when importing Vietnamese seafood into this country, this is also a positive sign.

So far, after more than two years since Saudi Arabia lifted the ban on seafood imports from Vietnam, many Vietnamese seafood companies have received large orders. This has opened up many great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to export to this “18th largest economy in the world” country.

Although Saudi Arabia has set difficult principles for export companies, this is the “leading market” in the Middle East region, and its policy movements can affect other markets in the region. Therefore, VASEP believes that promoting Vietnam’s seafood exports to Saudi Arabia is of great significance.
